Michael is a shareholder and director of the firm, and has a diverse business practice. 

Michael advises health care providers on regulatory and compliance issues such as HIPAA, including its Privacy and Security rules, Stark and anti-kickback.  Michael also advises health care providers on business issues, including electronic medical record licensing arrangements, group practice structures, employment agreements, and service agreements. 

Michael represents a variety of privately-held and publicly-traded companies, including automotive, food packaging, and pharmaceutical.  He assists these clients in complex commercial transactions, including supply and sourcing arrangements, intellectual property protection and licensing, and financing.  Michael’s practice also includes representing sellers and buyers (both strategic and financial) in a variety of mergers and acquisitions, including recapitalizations, mergers, stock purchases, asset purchases and stock redemptions. 

Michael graduated from the University of Michigan in 1992, and received his law degree cum laude from the University of Minnesota School of Law in 1996.  Prior to entering private practice, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Marc L. Goldman, then United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. 

Michael is a frequent speaker on, and has authored articles about, business and health care law topics.  Michael is Chair of the Grand Rapids Bar Association’s Business and Taxation Law Section and currently volunteers for the Grand Rapids area SCORE chapter.
