Dick practices municipal law and has special expertise in library law, election law and zoning law. Dick represents numerous libraries throughout Michigan and has assisted in the formation of many district libraries. He participated in the drafting of the District Library Establishment Act in 1989 and amendments to the Act in 2005.

He graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University in 1977, and received his law degree, magna cum laude, from that institution in 1980. Dick is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Michigan Library Association.

Dick has served Habitat for Humanity in various capacities. Robert R. Toland, of Fishbeck, Thompson Carr & Huber, Inc., and Dick co-authored an article entitled Residential and Institutional Care Facilities which was published in Planning and Zoning News.
